East London Tourism stakeholders need a private professional body

East London South Africa , or Buffalo City as we are meant to be called ( talk about identity crisis?) had the top management of the City recently decide that our most active and effective tourism body ( Buffalo City Tourism or BCT) need no longer exist.

Reasons cited were that the body did not comply with some legislative requirements , which were disputed by the top management of this effective body.

So what are the real reasons for this rather hasty decision and rapid decision making process( unbelievable how quick decisions can be made when it suites the administration)

Stakeholders in tourism should be questioning the reasoning behind such a rash decision , as the regions tourism needs active promotion and daily attention to try and retain and grow tourism to this region.

Aside from a few key industrial investors and employers , tourism is surely this areas most sustainable long term industry , and already the product is poorly packaged and certainly not marketed any near its full potential.

The truth be told , East London South Africa holds some of the best coastal tourism potential in our country , and with the global switch to simplistic nature style holidays ,we are perfectly poised to make use of this market opportunity.

So as tourism stakeholders what are our options ? Do we sit and wait for these rash rather inexplicable management decisions to negatively effect the industry ? It is surely high time that a strong unified body be put together , run by stakeholders in the industry , and those who understand the complexity of correctly packaging our tourism products.

Like our Springbok rugby side should be questioning the coaching decisions in the last few defeats , so too should the stakeholders of tourism investment be questioning the decisions of our regions custodians?

East London South Africa has so much to offer tourist , local and foreign , but we need to package and promote the area in a manner that will project the natural beauty of the region and appeal to the new simplistic nature style holidays that are now in Vogue with many first world adventure seekers.

Come stay at Riversway Guest House East London and we will guide you to some of the most amazing areas within just a few minutes drive from our facility. East London! Call it what you want

East London;Buffalo City;Emonti;and numerous other suggestions have been made to try and rename East London. East London South Africa has recently come under the political spotlight of the the new South African name change trending ,which seems to be really high on the country rulers agenda.
Like many products and services out there , marketing gurus will always be aware that there is a lot in a name , but only when coupled with the correct blend of packaging , pricing, positioning and promotion . However a name alone cannot make a product or service any more desirable , and this is what needs to be recognised when looking at East London as a tourist product as a whole.

East London has it all to offer international tourist , yet on a visit to Port Elizabeth this weekend , it is obvious that their coastal tourist route either ends in Port Elizabeth or East London is flown or driven through to get to KZN. This is obvious by the number of American , English , Brazilian and many other accents heard in one small tourist area of PE , namely The Boardwalk casino complex.

The natural beauty of East London's coastal region is awe inspiring to any visitor , and one has to beg the question why are we not able to get these international tourists to take the extra hop ( 3 hours by road or just 45 minutes by air) to experience what East London has on offer?

All it will take is a few large groups to be shown the natural beauty we have in East London , treated to our natural hospitality and an extra dash of entertainment thrown in , and East London will easily be added to the next international tourist map after Port Elizabeth.

So what needs to be done ? Quite simply , the Name East London has intrinsic value , Package it , price it ( that is in place ) position it ( our unique selling point is nature and adventure) and promote it correctly , and we have a tourism product that will hold its own with any in the world.

If you are a visitor to South Africa , put East London on your next visit. Come stay with us at Riversway in Nahoon http://www.riversway.co.za/ and we will personally give you an insight into the natural beauty around this coastal City. Nature trails , Game viewing , Great dining , Surfing , Fishing , Hunting , and great cultural tourism in our very special fire pot casserole of things to do for any visitor to this area.

Call East London what you like , just unwrap some of the outdated and poorly packaged exterior and you will discover a treasure trove of tourist delights.
